University of Washington Commercial Real Estate Certificate 2019
Cary recently completed the University of Washington Wright Rundstad Commercial Real Estate Development one-year certificate program. The cross-disciplinary curriculum gave Cary a working knowledge of all phases of development and an opportunity to work hand-in-hand with classmates in fields including general contracting, architecture, law, brokerage, marketing, finance/banking, and property management.

Final Project
The culmination of the one-year course was a final presentation to a mock equity board on a development project. This project included all phases of site selection, due diligence, financial analysis, and marketing.

University of Washington MBA 2017
Cary earned an MBA from the University of Washington Foster School of Business in June 2017. Foster provided Cary with a deep understanding of business and the tools to innovate within any industry. With a goal of becoming a well-rounded manager of people, programs, and processes, Cary structured his curriculum to include coursework from all disciplines within business.

Foster Teamwork
Foster MBA is a team-based program which afforded Cary the opportunity to work alongside amazing individuals with different industry experience, competencies, ages, cultures, and personalities. Case competitions, presentations, final projects, and final papers required close knit teamwork in order to compete among this generation of rising leaders.
Cary remains active in clubs and societies: MBAA VP of student affairs, UW Constulting Society, UW Real Estate Club, Challenge for Charity, UW Solar Club Finance Representative and industry mentor.

Practical Application - F5 Field Study - Strategic Consulting
Cary partnered with fellow Foster MBA candidates to deliver a market segmentation field study for F5 Communications' Certification team. This consulting project involved market research including a survey capturing data from 1500 respondents, data analytics, and cluster analysis. The project timeline spanned 14 weeks, with weekly customer meetings, in-depth presentation of marketing personas recommendations, and final report summarizing methodology and findings. Feel free to ask about the details!

University of Washington Solar Club - Finance Representative
Interdisciplinary team of students at the University of Washington working hand in hand with public entities in the development of a solar installations with accompanying industrial control systems. Also focused on providing effective outreach to students and the community about the benefits of smart solar investments. My work included preparing financial models for solar installations, contract negotiations with potential equity partners, partnering with UW treasury on finance decisions and policy review. I also acted as an industry expert to mentor engineering students and provide experience to the team as we presented to senior leadership of public entities.

University of Washington Electrical Engineering

Cary studied electrical engineering at the University of Washington with a focus in power distribution and power generation. Capstone projects like designing a functional Variable Frequency Drive gave Cary concrete experience in hardware and programming. Graduate level classes like Power Systems Economics have helped blend the engineering world with business principles. Cary brings the engineer's eye for detail and think outside the box mindset to business problems on a daily basis.

Capstone Project - Variable Frequency Drive
Cary worked on a small team designing a variable frequency drive (VFD) with functionality of being able to speed up or slow down a motor, control ramp up and ramp down times, provide GUI for console control and mechanical controls for local override. This project blended Verilog programming of PLC chips, circuit design and testing, hands on manufacturing of circuit boards, and real life functionality testing. Common real life applications for this technology can be seen on the majority of medium and large sized commercial and industrial motors.

Classes for diversity of ideas
Whether it was prerequisites, filling a language requirement or just general curiosity, Cary studies a wide variety of subjects to remain open minded and curious. Cary studied abroad in Costa Rica and Brazil as he explored his love of language, cultures and people

Study Abroad - Costa Rica - Study of the coffee trade
Costa Rica has always been known for it's rich culture and importance in the coffee trade. Cary researched the coffee trade from plant to cup examining the labor, product, manufacturing process, retailers and social issues around the sourcing of coffee. Unraveling Free-Trade, Fair-Trade and sustainability measures and how they affect the farmers, local economies and end users. The lush forests, perfect surfing beaches, amazing family driven culture, meeting life long friends and chance to practice Spanish made this study abroad trip an unforgettable adventure.

Study Abroad - Rio de Janiero Brazil - Social and Economic Issues
Brazil is an enormous country with landscape and culture varying drastically as you travel from the Amazon river to the Beaches of Rio to the concrete metropolis of Sao Paolo. My studies were mainly focused on the growing economic inequality in Brazil and the disappearance of the middle class. Lack of opportunity for financing leaves employed families without a means of purchasing housing. Home-ownership in Brazil for most comes by self construction, purchasing one brick at at time meaning that many of the residential neighborhoods are partially built in perpetuity. The rich culture of the Cariocas (people from Rio), Samba dance lessons, barbacoa meals with the local familes, and beautiful sunsets in the Santa Teresa neighborhood of Rio made for an amazing trip.
